Why Even Wedding Planners Need Stock Photography

One of the questions we get asked a lot is, “Does a wedding planner need styled stock photography? Isn’t that what their portfolio is for?” And, though it might seem counter intuitive, the answer is, “Yes, wedding planners need stock photography just like other creative professionals.” Here’s why:

1 // Because You Don’t Have the Budget (or the Time) to do a Photoshoot Every Month

We love a good styled shoot as much as the next wedding pro but, let’s be real, they are a drain on resources. Yes, there is absolutely a time and a place for them - like when you want to work with pros you have been dying to or when you have a rad idea. But, between the time it takes to develop a full concept, put together a rock star team of vendors, exchange 1000 emails with them, and then spend an entire day setting up, shooting, and striking, styled shoots cost a lot of time and money. And, while we all have been guilty of turning a blind eye to the actual costs of shoots we’ve done in the past, it’s hard not to feel the drain in some form or another.

2 // Because Sometimes Even Your Portfolio Doesn’t Have What You Need

A photographer’s priority on a wedding day is to capture it for the couple – they are, after all, footing the bill for the photographer’s time and talent. So, unless the couple had the budget to book the photographer for a 12-hour day, oftentimes there just aren’t the extra minutes to capture the details and images you need to market your business. And, when it comes to finding the perfect photo for an advertisement or promo flyer, sometimes it just doesn’t exist in a wedding gallery.

3 // Because Everybody Needs Help Every Once in a While

When you are building a brand and marketing a business, appearances are everything. The problem is, the #lifeofaweddingplanner isn’t picture perfect all of the time – especially in the thick of wedding season. Pair that fast paced life with the fast paced need for content, and everyone is going to need a little help to keep up with it all.

There are lots of reasons we decided to start Sourced Co. but these three are the pain points each of us has struggled with in running our own wedding businesses. And, they are the pain points we want to help solve for our peers. Whether you find yourself in constant need of styled stock photography to use on your social media feed or have a single project you are searching for just-the-right-photo, we’ve got you covered!
